Medicare D Credible Coverage Information

Notice of Credible Coverage

Chelsea School District offers a prescription drug plan to Medicare-eligible employees and any family member covered under the employee contract that is better than the one offered through the Medicare D program that began in May 2006.  On an annual basis we update this notification to our employees directly affected by the Medicare D program and also provide a district-wide notification to all employees regarding our prescription plan being a Credible Coverage Program.

We would urge any employee (or member of the employee's family) covered under the  District health plan contract that may be eligible for Medicare D to contact us to ensure that they have all the necessary documentation on file should they have to switch to the Medicare D prescription drug program at a later date. Without this documentation additional fees may apply to prescription drugs that are filled.

In order to be Medicare eligible, you need to meet one of the following requirements:

1)  Age 65 or older

2)  Some people under age 65 with disabilities (you'll know if you are in this category as you would have applied for Medicare because you or a covered family member have a disability)

3)  People with End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD), which is permanent kidney failure requiring dialysis or a kidney transplant

We have posted a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) document on the District website that you may reference.  We hope that this will assist you with questions you may have.

On an annual basis we update our notice of credible coverage and post it on the District website.  We are also required to update our credible coverage notification each time our health plan changes or new plans are offered.  For the 2009-10 year there have been no plan changes or new plans offered.

Staff members who are in need of a copy of the prior year notifications should contact the Finance Office at (734) 433-2208.
